Derrick Brookins
Derrick Brookins is currently in his 14th year of teaching choral music education. He joined the faculty of Plano Senior High School, Plano Texas, in the fall of 2003 as the Director of Choral Activities. Prior to his appointment to Plano Senior High, Mr. Brookins directed the choirs at Williams High School in Plano, TX where the program blossomed from 63 to 300 members. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Brookins has completed, with honors, both undergraduate and graduate work at the University of North Texas.

For nine years, Mr. Brookins studied and performed with world-renowned choral musician Moses Hogan. As a vocal performer, Mr. Brookins has performed on four continents and for several European royal families, and two US Presidents, in venues such as the White House and the Sydney Opera House. He is a highly sought after choral clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States and has presented several educational workshops for the Texas Choral Directors Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and the S.W. American Choral Directors Association.

Choirs under Mr. Brookins direction consistently receive Sweepstakes at UIL contest and have been named “Best in Class” at several choral festivals throughout the nation. Mr. Brookins’ choirs have performed for the National MENC Convention in San Antonio (2005) as well as the National American Choral Director’s Association Convention in Miami, FL (2007).

Mr. Brookins has been recognized as Teacher of the year at Williams High School (2000) and recently at Plano Senior High School (2008.) He was also named as a finalist for PISD’s Teacher of the year and received the District’s Excellence In Teaching Award. Since Mr. Brookins has been teaching at PSHS, the fine arts department has twice been recognized as a Grammy Signature school for arts excellence.

Mr. Brookins has served the Texas Music Educator’s Association in the capacity of Vocal Chairman for both Region 24 and Region 25 and as Organizer for the Texas All State Men’s Choir in 2008. Mr.Brookins currently holds professional membership with TMEA ,TCDA, ACDA, and TMAA, and has been appointed Division Chairman of Multicultural/Ethnic Choral Music for SWACDA.

 
 
Douglas S. Council joined the faculty of Plano Senior High School in the fall of 2009 as the Associate Director of Choral Activities. A native of Dallas, Texas Mr. Council graduated Cum Laude while receiving his BME from the University of North Texas.

Recognized as a renowned singer, Mr. Council has been an active member of the Texas Voices, under the Direction of Mr. Alan Dyer, for the past 8 years. Doug Council has recently been named to Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

Doug Council is a highly sought after vocal performer and choral clinician throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Mr. Council holds membership with ACDA, TMEA, and TCDA.

 
 

 

Maryanne Lange Visconti, now in her eighth year of teaching public school music, joined the faculty of Plano Senior High in 2008. Her previous years of teaching were in Coppell, Texas. Holding her degree in Piano and Education, with a Vocal Minor, from Texas Wesleyan, Maryanne graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors, the Valedictorian of her class. Her vocal instructors included Mr. Walter Lynn and Dr. Steve Simons; her piano instructor was Dean Karen Johnson-Waters, and her organ instructor was Dr. Donald Bellah.

Ms. Visconti has performed as a pianist, organist, vocalist, and choral accompanist and is also sought after as an instructor, clinician, and vocal, show, and instrumental accompanist. She is a member of TMEA, TCDA, and AGO. Additionally, Ms Visconti serves in the Music Ministry at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Plano.

As the very blessed mother of Zachary, a junior PPA Finance major at Texas A&M in College Station, and Adam, a sophomore Church Music/Clarinet major at Baylor in Waco, Maryanne resides in Coppell.
